Joyce Goldstein is a celebrated chef, author, and restaurateur known for her significant contributions to Mediterranean and California cuisine. As the chef-owner of Square One in San Francisco (1984–1996), she earned acclaim for pioneering bold, vibrant Mediterranean flavors that celebrated seasonal, fresh ingredients. Before launching Square One, she served as the head chef of Chez Panisse Café, where her culinary vision helped shape California cuisine.
